In the early morning hours of May 28, the Mississippi House of Representatives adjourned sine die, officially concluding the 2025 Extraordinary Special Session. Governor Tate Reeves called the session to finalize the state’s Fiscal Year 2026.
Over the course of two days, House members worked diligently to meet their constitutional obligation of funding the essential functions of state government. Lawmakers passed more than 100 appropriations bills, ensuring continued support for vital services such as education, public safety, infrastructure, mental health, Medicaid, human services, transportation, economic development, and corrections.
The approved budget totals more than $7 billion and reflects a strong commitment to maintaining Mississippi’s fiscal stability while investing in the core services that impact citizens statewide. With the new fiscal year beginning July 1, this budget provides a clear path forward to meet the state’s immediate needs and long-term priorities.
The House convened at 11 a.m. on May 27 and completed its business around 1 a.m. on May 28. Before adjourning, members paused to honor the memory of several individuals, most notably the late son of Representative Gregory Holloway, whose recent passing was deeply felt across the chamber.
